BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KERO) — New developments in a shooting near Delano that took place last week. According to officials, 27-year-old Efren Alcala Lopez of McFarland was identified as the person who was shot and killed.
According to the Kern County Sheriff's Office on Wednesday around 6:45 p.m. deputies responded to southbound Highway 99 just north of Pond Road for reports of a victim of a shooting.
It was determined the incident happened within the California Highway Patrol's jurisdiction and the investigation was handed over to the CHP.
The CHP reported that Lopez was taken to Adventist Health Delano where he later died from his injuries. CHP added the shooting does appear to be gang-related.
No suspect information has been released at this time.
