Standoff at Denny's after suicidal man holding knife to his throat refuses to come out

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Bakersfield Police officers were involved in a standoff with a suicidal man inside Denny's Saturday morning.

Officers were dispatched to the restaurant on Buck Owens Boulevard around 5 a.m.

When officers arrived they were advised that a man was inside the business who was suicidal and holding a knife to his throat. 

Negotiations with the man lasted three hours before officers were able to diffuse the situation and take him into custody. 

The man reportedly suffered a minor injury during the standoff. 

It was determined that there was no criminal violation committed by the man and he was transported to a local hospital for a psychiatric evaluation.
