Good Samaritan stepped in to save woman and was also stabbed
Blaine is waiting to go into surgery after being stabbed multiple times and wanted to send this message of thanks to everyone who has reached out to him. In case you missed it, Blaine jumped between a man with a machete and a woman after the attacker chased the woman into a Starbucks Sunday. Friends say because Blaine was there, he possibly saved her life because he diverted the attention away from the woman.
The man accused of stabbing multiple people at a Starbucks in Southwest Bakersfield has been identified.
Bakersfield Police say 31-year-old Robert Daniel Rivas has been charged with multiple felonies including attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon and resisting arrest.
Rivas is accused of attacking a woman on Sunday and chasing her into the Starbucks on Stockdale Highway near California Avenue.
While in Starbucks, Rivas was confronted by a Good Samaritan, identified as 27-year-old Blaine Hodge.
Witnesses say Hodge intervened and eventually suffered multiple stab wounds. Witnesses say Rivas used a machete in his attack.
Hodge was set to undergo surgery Monday.
Police say the woman is in critical condition.
Adventist Health Bakersfield confirmed on Wednesday that a dozen or more jobs are expected to be cut in the coming months.
