Parents of students at Voorhies Elementary in east Bakersfield received a strange letter this past week.

The letter, which was sent in a Bakersfield City School District envelope, was addressed to parents and students at the school. In the letter, the writer claims to be Erick Casallas, the principal at Voorhies. Casallas has been the principal there since summer of 2017.

In the letter, the writer (acting as Casallas) says he is a gay man and says it's "for this reason, I love little boys and more now because I'm going to have them very close to me."

The Bakersfield City School District sent their own letter to students on Monday, saying that the original letter was not sent by Casallas or the district.

BCSD is investigating to figure out who sent the letter; they believe it was an employee who has access to student addresses and names. They've alerted the Bakersfield Police Department.
