The 19th Annual Kern County College Night was held Monday night on September 10, 2018, at Rabobank Convention Center from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
"In 45 to 50 minutes we saw 3,500 students. This is the largest college event in the state," said Wendy Ward, an intervention counselor at Foothill High School.
The event hosted more than 120 colleges from all around the country, even all the way from Alaska. By the end of the event around 10,000 students, teachers and parents filled the stage.
If you missed the event organizers suggest meeting with your high school counselor to see if your school is hosting a college fair. Ward says before you talk with a college representative, it's important to do your research and come up with a list of questions.
“Ask questions that are specific to you there are general questions, and you need to find out what the right fit is. Is the campus in the mountains or the desert? What is the campus size? Or the ethnic demographics? Cost is really important, and you want to make sure you get the most on the return of your investment," said Ward.
One way to get started on your college preparation is to take practice SAT/ACT tests, and Bakersfield Sylvan is offering Free SAT/ACT practice Tests this weekend. For more information visit their website www.bakersfieldsylvan.com.
