Nearly 20% of California community college students have reported experiencing homelessness in the past year, according to a recent study from researchers at Philadelphia's Temple University.
The study surveyed nearly 40,000 students of California's 2.1 million community college students at 57 campuses during 2016 and 2018 fall semesters.
Researchers found that 60 percent of students surveyed were "housing insecure" in the past year. Housing insecurity is defined as falling into circumstances that made housing houses more likely, like missing a rent payment.
