Surgeons at Dignity Health Mercy and Memorial Hospitals are putting their scalpel skills to use in a different way this Halloween for their pumpkin carving contest.

The contest serves as a way to teach children how to safely carve a Jack O' Lantern.

Children who are currently hospitalized won't miss out on the Halloween fun, as pediatrics staff members will put on costumes and deliver treats to patients throughout the day.

The contest will begin at noon on Tuesday and will be located at Bakersfield Memorial Hospital's center courtyard. (420 34th Street)
