Kern County Sheriff deputies have arrested a man in a murder case that happened on the 500 block of South Drive in Lebec on Thursday night.
KCSO officials said at around 9:39 pm, Frazier Park deputies were dispatched to the 500 block of South Drive in Lebec to the report of a disturbance and shot fired.
Officials said upon their arrival, deputies and California Highway Patrol officers found a Hispanic male subject suffering from an apparent gunshot wound lying in the street. Fire and ambulance personnel were requested however the victim died from his injuries at the scene.
Kern County Sheriff’s Office homicide detectives responded and began an investigation.
Their investigation discovered 58-year-old Steve Gilmore confronted the victim as he was looking into one of his windows.
The victim was unarmed as Gilmore shot him while he was trying to flee.
Steve Gilmore was arrested for murder and booked into the Central Receiving Facility. The Coroner will release the identity of the victim once positive identification has been made and his next of kin is notified.
