Fresno County Sheriff's Office responded to a call of an active shooter in the lobby of the Fresno County Jail just
after 8:30 Saturday morning.
According to officials, 37-year-old Thong Vang entered the jail and said he wanted to see someone at the jail.
Authorities say jail staff confronted Vang, who began acting erratically before taking out a gun and opening fire.
Correctional officers Juanita Davila and Toamalama Scanlan were hit by bullets and were transported to a local hospital with head and neck injuries.
Davila is in critical but stable condition and Scanlan is in critical condition.
Vang later surrendered and was arrested.
Officials say Vang served a 16 year prison sentence for raping three minors between the ages of 12 and 14.
