Suspect turns himself in for hit-and-run that left a Bakersfield policeman injured

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The suspect involved in a hit and run crash with a Bakersfield police officer has turned himself into authorities.

According to police officials, at around 10 a.m. Wednesday 27-year-old Ignacio Diaz turned himself into the Kern County jail where he was booked on a warrant for a felony hit and run.

Bakersfield police say the crash happened around 10:30 p.m. on June 11 in the area of East Brundage Lane and Cottonwood Road.

The officer who has not been identified was driving in a marked patrol car when a person driving an SUV slammed into them.

Diaz, who was driving the SUV took off from the scene and the officer was taken to a hospital for their injuries.
