Kern County sheriff's deputies said a 19-year-old surrendered himself to authorities late Thursday night in connection with the fatal shooting of a 27-year-old man in Lamont.

At about 2:40 p.m., Thursday, Kern County Sheriff's deputies were sent to the 7900 block of Doney Street, just north of Lamont regarding a shooting.

Deputies said they found a 27-year-old Hispanic male who had multiple gunshot wounds lying on the shoulder of the roadway.

Deputies attempted life-saving measures, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Homicide detectives were called to the scene and took over the investigation.

During the course of the investigation, it was determined the victim was involved in a fight with 19-year-old Francisco Renteria.

During the fight, deputies said Renteria pulled out a handgun and shot the victim multiple times.

Renteria then fled in a vehicle.  An arrest warrant was issued for Renteria for murder.

At approximately 11:45 pm on September 8th, Renteria turned himself in at the Central Receiving Facility and was booked on his warrant.  He is being held on $500,000 bail.

The identity of the victim will be released by the Coroner's Office at a later time.
