Taft Chief of Police Ed Whiting made a presentation on Wednesday evening before the Taft City School District asking them to allow concealed weapons on campus, especially in light of recent shootings.
Chief Whiting told the district that allowing concealed weapons on campus could help stop a tragedy and would discourage possible shooters from planning an attack where more people would be armed.
While no parents showed up to the meeting, residents were split on their opinions. Some felt this would make schools safer for students but others want the police to be the only ones armed at the schools.
The district now has time to consider chief whiting’s presentation and research before making a decision but so far, there is no timetable for when that will take place.
