A sad update to a story 23ABC has been following for the past week.
Sierra Gabbert, a West High School softball standout, suffered an event of cardiac arrest last week according to friends. She passed away on Wednesday.
According to the go fund me account, Gabbert died on Wednesday morning.

"With a heavy heart we wanted to let everyone know that Sierra lost her battle today. She fought hard, but her body was just not strong enough to pull thru. Our love and prayers are with Buck, Mollie and Grace during this difficult time."
On Thursday, West High softball players gathered to tell stories about Gabbert and remember her.

Gabbert was fighting for her life at LA Children's hospital after suffering the heart issue struck at home last week.
Friends of Gabbert say a test was performed on her heart Tuesday and doctors found an extra nerve that could have caused the issue.
