BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — The Kern County Coroner's Office has identified the teenager shot and killed on Saturday night as 17-year-old Kevin Lashawn Mallard.

On Saturday at around 10:35 p.m., officers with the Bakersfield Police Department were dispatched to the area of Edmonton Street, near Wilson Road, where they discovered Mallard in a vehicle suffering from gunshot wounds. The vehicle had collided with a detached garage

Mallard was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police said that additional occupants that were in the vehicle with the victim fled the scene prior to officers arriving.
