Shafter High student dies after crash in Shafter

KCSO has released the identity of a teenager that died after a crash in Shafter. 

The crash happened on October 29 around 3:30 p.m. 16-year-old Jair Ignacio Espinoza from Shafter was driving on the 500 block of N. Shafter Avenue when his vehicle was struck by another vehicle. He was taken to Kern Medical where he later died from his injuries. 

A postmortem examination will be conducted to confirm cause and manner of death. 

Espinoza was a student at Shafter High School. The Kern High School District released this statement. 

The loss of this young man’s life is a tragedy for Shafter and the entire high school community. The Kern High School District is devoting considerable efforts to helping our students and staff deal with this loss and we extend our sincere sympathies to the family. Grief counselors are on campus today and their services are available to all students and staff during this difficult time.
