BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Fireworks lit up Tehachapi skies Saturday evening after all, following an announcement by the city on Wednesday, stating the show would be canceled.

According to the city's spokesman, Key Budge, Saturday's announcement was made a few hours before the show to avoid large crowds from out of town, while giving residents enough time to make accommodations.

"Once we felt we weren't going to see those crowds, we thought we can possibly do it, with enough notification for locals to enjoy the show," Budge said.

The 9 p.m. fireworks show was held near the city's airport, the lowest part of the valley, according to Budge, so that residents can view the show from their home.
