Tehachapi Police Department investigate rumors of rioting, looting

TEHACHAPI, Calif. — The Tehachapi Police Department said it has received numerous reports regarding protests in the Tehachapi Area and continues to investigate threats of rioters and looters.

TPD said it is not requesting the assistance of armed citizens in response to these protests and warns private citizens refrain from engaging in "police activity" or from interfering with police efforts to monitor, manage, or disperse any type of protest activity.

TPD said any information regarding potential threats will be released directly from the department in a press release.

"It is the priority of the Tehachapi Police Department to preserve public peace, protect life, and prevent the destruction of property while recognizing the constitutional right of people to peaceably assemble and speak freely."

TPD said is is prepared to handle any unlawful gatherings or assembly.
