Storms are expected to hit Kern County all week. Rainfall will start in Tehachapi around seven on Tuesday morning.
Monday night the weather was calm in Tehachapi, but Tuesday morning is expected to be completely different.
The rain amounts are expected to be greater than recent storms. Some residents said they were excited for the wet weather.
"I love rain, I think all my flowers love rain, and my grass loves rain, and my dogs love the rain. I just think it's going to help the drought," said Carol Weston who lives in Golden Hills West.
She said although she's happy about the rain she did have some worries because she lives next to a large hill.
"I'm a little concerned that the mud will slide down into our house," said Weston.
Weston said she has been preparing for the El Nino season by digging ditches around the house and adding drains and rain gutters.
Tehachapi resident Joseph McCollough said he has also been preparing because his house is on top of a hill.
"You know, like if we have any loose soil we try to move it out of the way. We just generally try to embank ourselves from going down the mountain," said McCollough.
Others like Virginia Whiteside said she's not only preparing her home, but her pets too.
"The thing we're concerned with is keeping our hay covered so it doesn't get moldy and too wet and making sure the horses have a dry place to stand," said Whiteside.
The first storm on Tuesday is expected to leave behind an inch to an inch and a half of rain.
Once that storm passes through another will be on the way. It is expected to hit on Wednesday.
