Thanksgiving Day events taking place around Kern County

The Mission at Kern County isn't the only place to go for those needing a Thanksgiving meal today.

Every year The Mission at Kern County helps hundreds of people during the Thanksgiving holiday and this year will be no different. The Mission will be providing up to about 500 meals to people in need on Thanksgiving Day.

The meals will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at The Mission on East 21st Street.

The Second Annual Delano Community Thanksgiving Luncheon is taking place Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Tony's Firehouse Grill at 502 County Line Road. They say to stay in your vehicle and exit Cecil Avenue near Starbuck's on Glenwood Street and go north to the Firehouse Grill.

And the Blessing Corner Ministries will be distributing roughly 800 meals to people in need Thursday starting at 11:30 a.m. This is a drive-up event at the facility on Union Avenue that lasts until 2 p.m.

And the Turkey Day Run is finally here! It's happening at the Park at Riverwalk. The Bakersfield Turkey Day Run includes a 5k run and a 2k walk. The 5k is timed but f you want to take things a little slow you can take part in the 2k.

And Happy Jacks Pie and Burgers downtown are focusing all their attention on "pies" this week. Hundreds of to-go orders for the holiday including 60 pies picked up by Jim Burke Ford to be donated to the Bakersfield Homeless Center.

A busy holiday for the local car dealer, which is also passing out face masks at several locations around town as part of Ford's PPE program and their Dream Builders program.
