It’s an annual event put on for nearly 40 years, but this December the 2020 Bakersfield Christmas Parade is expected to look very different. The event usually brings in around 20,000 people, but due to COVID-19 concerns committee members say the event will take place virtually this year.
The theme for this year’s virtual parade is, “The Movies of Christmas.” This is in honor of the upcoming 90th anniversary of the Bakersfield Fox Theater.
The President of this event, Greg Cronk says they are asking the community to keep the spirit of Christmas alive and send in virtual entries. All submissions are due by November 2, and for these entries, Cronk is looking for creativity from the public. He says, “A video presentation, a family or a business entity. Have everybody in the Christmas spirit, doing their best. And I welcome any and all participants.”
The virtual event will be held on December 3rd. It will air on 23ABC from 6-8 p.m., with their usual two-hour parade run time.
