Around 2:34 Sunday morning a fire broke out at the Bakersfield Plastics Inc. facility located on Union Avenue and 8th Street in Central Bakersfield.

Residents who were driving in the area told the Bakersfield Fire Department (BFD) that they saw heavy smoke coming from the roof top.

When firefighters arrived on scene they found that the inside of the building was completely engulfed in flames and that heavy smoke was filling the air.

According to BFD fire officials one firefighter sustained minor injuries after part of the inside of the building collapsed. He was taken to the hospital where he was treated. No one else was hurt during the fire.

The cause of the fire is still unknown and BFD is handling the investigation at this time.
