The Kern River Golf Course is combining two sports together to bring you and your family a one of a kind experience this August, and The Now took the first look into everything the new facility has to offer.

The Now Bakersfield’s Tori Cooper was the first reporter to test out  the new course in Kern County. “We are installing a footgolf course. What it is, it’s a hybrid sport between golf and soccer so it takes all the rules of golf but you use a soccer ball,” Kern River Golf Course Owner Jacque Servadio said.

Just like any golf course there are areas to putt, there are 18 holes with their own par and you have to use finesse, “This is a par five so your laying two right now, so you got three kicks to try to get the ball in the hole,” Servadio said.

Using only your feet, your own soccer ball or a rented one you will also tee off just as you would in a regular game of golf. Adults get in for $16 dollars and people under the age of 18 get in for $12 dollars a day, you can also rent a golf cart for $11 a day. However, beware the game is not as easy it looks.

Footgolf is new growing sport so once Servadio became the new owner of the Kern River Golf course she decided to be the first one to bring the hybrid sport to Kern County, “It’s growing all over the country, its huge in Europe but nowhere in Kern County is there a facility to play the game.”

Servadio said the new addition won’t distract or take away from the original golfing experience that’s already in place, “The holes are only going to be on the front nine, they actually play at the same pace as a nine hole about two hours, same pace that a golfer would play.”

Footgolf will only be offered in the afternoons after the rush of traditional golfers is mostly over. Some golfers also told Cooper that they are open to the new addition starting this August, “I like the idea because it’s something new coming to Bakersfield,” One Kern River Golf Course golfer said.

The larger holes are still under construction at the Kern River Golf Course but Servadio does expect to have a soft opening for the footgolf course by mid August.
