BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Three puppies that were reportedly thrown into a canal in Bakersfield are now recovering at the Tehachapi Vet Hospital.
According to a post in the Tehachapi Classifieds Facebook group, Sgt. Lee Henning with the Union Pacific Police Department witnessed someone throw five puppies into a canal in Bakersfield. The sergeant was reportedly able to rescue three of the pups and take them to a local Tractor Supply where Rhonda Voda who is a former rescue volunteer with the Have a Heart Human Society and posted the story to Facebook, offered to take them in.
She tells 23ABC that the puppies have been taken to the Tehachapi Vet Hospital. They are all reportedly suffering from a few scrapes and scratches but one of the puppies will have to undergo surgery for a broken leg.
Sgt. Lee Henning confirmed that he is following up with BPD to try and catch the guy who allegedly threw the puppies into the canal.
