Golfers around town may soon get a new place to take their swings in northwest Bakersfield.

Topgolf, a driving range-type venue that combines video games, entertainment, food and drink is one of two golf companies vying for a spot at the future Bakersfield Commons.

Trammel Crow Company, the project developer behind the Commons, said Topgolf and a competitor are in negotiations to get a spot at the Commons, planned for 1850 Coffee Road, between Brimhall and Calloway Roads.

The closest Topgolf to Bakersfield right now is in Las Vegas. 

Nothing is finalized yet, and developers are expected to announce the tenants at the Commons sometime next month.
