KCFD: Crash on I-5 ignites vegetation fire north of Lost Hills, approximately 450 acres.

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — According to Kern County Fire, a crash on I-5 near Highway 46 started a vegetation fire north of Lost Hills on Thursday evening.

Upon arrival to the reported collision, the fire department found that the vehicle involved was on fire and had started a vegetation fire on the east side of the I-5.

Fire crews worked to evacuate multiple encampments in the area as they proceeded to extinguish the fire. According to officials, the fire is at 450 acres in size with 60 percent containment.

Fire officials say that crews are making progress on the fire but will remain on scene throughout the night to gain full containment.

There are no structures damaged at this time and no injuries reported as a result of the fire.
