Update: City crews have cleared the tree on Stockdale Highway near Fairway Drive. Bakersfield Police are set to reopen eastbound lanes.
Updated 5:47 p.m. 2/27/2017: According to city crews the cause of the tree falling may have been due to weather and age of the tree.
Officials are unsure if any other trees are at risk but they look to open lanes soon with the scene completely clear in the next few hours.
The Bakersfield Police Department is shutting down eastbound lanes of traffic on Stockdale Highway on Monday morning due to a downed tree.
According to BPD, lanes will be shut down at Gosford Road. The tree is down near Fairway Drive.
BPD says it could take a few hours to clear the tree.
