BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — A trial date has been set for a local bakery owner who is being sued by the state.
Tastries Bakery in Northwest Bakersfield has been involved in a legal battle since 2017 after a same-sex couple claimed the owner, Cathy Miller, refused to sell them a wedding cake.
A judge initially ruled that Miller couldn't refuse service to anyone. However, a following ruling went in Miller's favor saying she was protected under first amendment rights.
A discrimination suit that was recently filed by the California Department of Fair Housing and Employment against Miller is going forward and has been scheduled for June of 2020.
