TULARE, Calif. — A K-9 deputy was taken to the vet after he was shot in the neck by an undercover Tulare County Sheriff's Office Detective, officials said Tuesday.

According to the TCSO website, the incident happened during a carjacking/robbery suspect chase when an undercover detective who was not in uniform-- came across K9 Jack who confused him with the actual suspect.

The K9 reportedly went after the detective and latched onto his tactical vest. When the detective couldn't get the K9 off of him he shot him once in the neck.

Officials said the K9 Jack was taken to a local vet, where he went into surgery and will survive his injuries.

The real suspect, Ricardo Aguirre, was eventually arrested in the same lot as the incident with the K9.
