Posted

Kicking off today, students in 2nd to 4th grade will be heading to the Kern County Fairgrounds all to get schooled in the agriculture industry.

The event, which happens annually, kicks off a two-day event sponsored by the Kern County Farm Bureau.

This year around 4,500 students are expected to attend the “Farm Day in the City.”

The event includes exhibits involving farm machinery, livestock and demonstrations on ag-specific issues like water and pesticide use.

Local farmers, agribusiness representatives and high school FFA student volunteers will be there to talk to the younger students and explain the various topics of agriculture.

The “Farm Day in the City” looks to familiarize children with the importance of agriculture.
