Two East Bakersfield schools were briefly locked down as a precaution due to unrelated nearby police activity, Bakersfield Police said Tuesday.
Administrators at both Bessie Owens Primary and Intermediate Schools placed the schools on lockdown at around 10:45 a.m. after what sounded like gunshots in the general area, Bakersfield City School District officials said.
Bakersfield Police investigated the area and determined it to be safe, so the lockdown was lifted shortly afterward.
There were no reports of anyone injured.
