Two inmates walked away from Taft Correctional Institution’s Minimum Security Satellite Camp Thursday around 11 a.m.
53-year-old inmate Rene Fernandez Noriega and 45-year-old inmate Jose Felipe Ruiz-Sanchez walked away from the facility.
Noriega is a white male of Hispanic origin, 5’7” about 205 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. He was sentenced on November 15, 2013 for conspiracy to distribute 500 grams or more of a substance containing methamphetamine. His projected release date was April 20, 2025.
Ruiz-Sanchez is a white male of Hispanic origin, 5’7” and approximately 185 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. He was sentenced on June 30, 2016 for conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute methamphetamine. His projected release date was September 3, 2021.
The camp is a minimum-security facility that houses approximately 550 low risk federal inmates with shorter sentences. The facility does not have a perimeter security fence or armed posts.
