Two Kern County Fire Department captains are busy helping battle the wildfires in the southeast.

23ABC News had the chance to speak with one of those firemen this afternoon. His name is Captain Collins and he is currently in North Carolina helping thousands of residents regain their homes.

KCFD captains Collins and Cagle, are both part of the California Interagency Incident Management Team. They are used to responding to local, regional, and national emergencies when the need arises.

Captain Collins says whenever he is deployed, he is honored to represent the Kern County Fire Department while doing what he loves.

"It humbles me to go out and actually do what I was trained to do. All the years that I've put in my own department. When people are the most stressed and their houses are burning or they don't know what to do, for someone like me to come in and be able to give them information and say, "hey the fire is here, we advise you to do that."
