Two men arrested on gun and gang charges following traffic stop in southwest Bakersfield

Bakersfield Police officers tracked down and arrested two men after a reported shooting in southwest Bakersfield. 

Officials said on Friday night around 10:30 p.m. officers responded to the 3700 block of Stockdale Highway near Real Road for gunshots heard in the area. 

Officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that was leaving the area at a high rate of speed. 

Upon stopping, a passenger took off from the vehicle. The passenger, Pedro Torrez, 29, was apprehended a short distance away and found to be in possession of a handgun. The driver, Justin Haynes, 27, was also arrested at the scene.

The investigation revealed a shooting occurred nearby in the 100 block of Candy Street near Ford Avenue.

No victims were located. Torrez and Haynes were charged with firearms violations and participating in a criminal street gang. 

The investigation is ongoing. BPD is asking anyone with information regarding this incident to call them at 327-7111.
