On December 10, 2016, 2 month-, 12 day-old Itzel Lazaro began experiencing medical complications and was transported to Kern Medical for treatment.
Lazaro was transported later that day to Lucile Packard Children's Hospital for further treatment. Her condition got worse, and she was pronounced dead on December 13.
A postmortem examination will be scheduled to determine cause and manner of death.
