According to the Kern County Sheriff's Office, two deputies assisted an elderly couple from fleeing a house fire in the 5200 block of Montecito Drive.

The deputies arrived on the scene at around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday morning to find the house fully engulfed by flames. Deputies found an elderly woman in a wheelchair holding a dog just outside the residence next to the front door. She "did not appear able to move" the KCSO said in a statement. Deputies helped move her and her dog to safety.

The deputies then found an elderly man in the backyard who appeared to be disoriented and escorted him to safety.

There were no injuries reported as a result of the fire.
