BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Valentine's Day arrangements were stolen from Edible Arrangements in the early morning hours of Valentine's Day, according to one of the managers.

According to Emily Perez, a manager of Edible Arrangements, someone broke into the store, located at 1120 Calloway Drive in Northwest Bakersfield, between 12 a.m. and 3 a.m. and stole "thousands of dollars worth of merchandise" and hundreds of Valentine's Day orders.

"It is just one of those heart sinking type of moments because we worked so hard yesterday. Some of us put in over sixteen hours just to make this day happen for a lot of people who want to show their loved ones that they love them," said Perez.

But this did not stop the Bakersfield community from spreading the love Thursday. Local residents stepped up after hearing about the incident and volunteered to help ensure valentines got their special deliveries.

"The fact that people are willing to come out and contribute to helping others, it is just great fro the community and that is good for Bakersfield," said Mario Birrueta, a volunteer.

Perez says her team is still going to try to fulfill all of the Valentine's Day orders, since today is their busiest day of the year. Perez also says this was the first year they are delivering to areas outside of Bakersfield.

Perez says this is the fourth time the store has been targeted. The previous time, gas was stolen, according to Perez. Two incidents of vandalism were reported to the Bakersfield Police Department in October.
