Valentine's Day preparations underway for singles and couples

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Whether viewers at home are planning on celebrating their romance or they are just doing their best to forget all about it, every February 13, last minute love bugs are making their rounds to make sure their Valentine's Day is a smooth one.

However, shop owners like Log Cabin Florist Dawn Baumgarten said their planning starts a month before the big day,"We start in January so all of the add on's and the things that you see we put together in January because we know we are busier..well it's our busiest day of the year."

Baumgarten said her flower shop is prepared to meet the demand for last minute shoppers until tomorrow with a dozen roses starting at $110, "It's definitely a rose holiday, but there is lots of product we have orchard plants, we have azalea plants, we have planted gardens, we have plush, we have balloons all kinds of things so there is going to be something here for you."

Baumgarten said they will deliver about 700 orders between Wednesday and tomorrow until they run out, but all together they are expecting to fulfill around 1400 orders for this Valentine's Day holiday.

If you are looking for something a little bit more simple and sweet at an affordable cost Dewar's Candy Shop is also another spot you may want to pass through, "Probably our chocolate hearts so we have a variety from two ounce to two and a half pound filled with Dewar's chocolate. We also have chocolate covered strawberries that are selling like hotcakes, we are making them currently and we can't keep them in stock. So then of course the chews you can't go wrong with some Dewar's chews and or a mixture of them with lots of valentine ceramics and all kinds of goodies," Owner of Dewars, Heather Dewar Cook said.

Chocolate goodies range from $5 and up with plenty assortments to choose from. The day after Valentine's Day everything will also go on sale for love birds who forgot all about the entire occasion. However, for the singles looking to forget all about their love match, Hooters is offering an incentive to help you do just that with its annual Shred Your Ex event. Simply bring a picture of your ex to Hooters, shred the picture and you can score 10 free boneless wings when you buy your first batch of 10 wings.

The Padre is also another hot spot for singles and couples, "Brimstone is going to be wonderful, it's a mix you're going to see singles, couples everything from people just looking for a casual night out to some people looking to get a little crazy and wild," Padre food and beverage Director Jeramy Brown said. If you also want to add the sparkle and spice, the Belvedere room at the Padre will also be available upon reservation.

Even though all of the events and stores will be open remember the Padre is reservation only for the Belvedere room and flower deliveries at the Log Cabin are first come first serve until they run out.
