UPDATE (August 3, 10:00 pm): KCFD is reporting that they have stopped the forward progress of the fire, which is being called the Edmonston Fire, but still have no estimate on containment. Traffic is still severely impacted along the Grapevine through Lebec.
Just after 7:00 pm on Thursday, Kern County Fire units responded to a vegetation fire burning along the southbound side of I-5 just south of the Grapevine ramp in Lebec.
There is no word on what sparked the fire, but southbound Grapevine traffic should seek an alternate route.
