Kern County Fire officials say they received a call for a vehicle fire on SB Interstate-5 at around 1:49 P.M, Thursday..
KCFD officials say when units arrived on scene, they found the engine compartment of a pickup truck on fire. A grass fire was also burning up the hillside on the west side of I-5.
Fire crews attacked the vehicle fire and were able to protect the enclosed trailer that the pickup was towing. Simultaneously, firefighters worked to control the perimeter of the grass fire with hand tools and extended a 400-foot progressive hose-lay up the steep hillside.
KCFD crews were able to quickly establish a containment line around the fire and incoming resources were cancelled.
The fire was contained in 40 minutes and held to 1 acre.
