The California Highway Patrol is investigating a vehicle versus pedestrian crash that happened in east Bakersfield early Sunday morning.

Officers responded to the area of Bernard St. and Alta Vista Drive around 5:45 a.m.

When they got on scene they found a man in his late 20s to early 30s down in the roadway.

The man was rushed to Kern Medical with major injuries.

The driver stayed at the scene. Officers said drugs and alcohol were not factors for the driver. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol were a factor for the pedestrian.

Officials said the man was about 250 feet west of the intersection and not in a cross walk.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
