In honor of Veterans Day, Kern River Blue Star Moms is hosting their fourth annual blood drive November 11 through November 12, 2016.
O- and O+ type blood is the biggest need, with O- blood in very short supply. In addition, both Houchin Community Blood Bank donor centers will serve as collection points for goods to go into care packages for our troops currently serving overseas. These care packages symbolize "a taste of home" to sons and daughters serving around the world.
All donors can enter to win two annual passes to Universal Studios, home of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter throughout the drive. Veterans Day donors on Friday can also enter to win a $100 gasoline card.
Boxes to collect individual personal care and snack items, which are easy to use and eat in primitive conditions, are available in the lobbies of the Truxtun Donor Center, 5901 Truxtun Avenue, and the Bolthouse Donor Center, 11515 Bolthouse Drive in Bakersfield.
Contributions can be brought in during open hours: Wednesday and Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Thursday 11:00 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Donors can also write greeting cards to be included in the care packages.
