Suspect turns himself in after hit & run

One person is in critical condition following a hit and run in Southwest Bakersfield early Wednesday morning.

According to Bakersfield Police, the victim was hit just after midnight in the area of Gosford Road and White Lane near the Fastrip. 

BPD says they were able to find the license plate from the car that hit the victim and went to the home where the vehicle was registered. Police went to the 5800 block of Monitor Street looking for 31-year-old Antonio Ramires, who they say was the suspect. 

Later in the afternoon, BPD official Gary Carruesco said that Antonio Ramires was a passenger or was at the scene was detained, booked for warrant. 

Saul Ramirez, 34, was the driver of the car.

Author ties said Ramirez left the scene and later turned himself into police. He now faces felony DUI and felony hit and run charges. 

Police say the victim is in critical but stable condition.
