Victims of Southeast Bakersfield shooting spree identified

Posted

KCSO Sheriff Donny Youngblood gave an update on the shooting spree that claimed the lives of 6 people Wednesday Night.

According to KCSO Sheriff Donny Youngblood, Javier Casarez, 54, accompanied by his wife, Petra Maribel Bellanos Casarez, 45, went to TNT Trucking and confronted TNT Trucking employee, Emanuel Contreras, 50 Wednesday evening.

Caseraz pulled a .50-caliber handgun and shot and killed Contreras. Casarez then turned the gun onto his wife, Petra and shot and killed her, Youngblood said.

Youngblood said that Antonio Valdez, 50, who was at the scene, fled, and Casarez fired shots at him. Casarez got in his car and found Valdez in front of Bear Mountain Sports, who he then shot and killed, Youngblood said.

Casarez then went to a home on Breckenridge Road, where he confronted Eliseo Cazares and his daughter, Laura Garcia, 31. KCSO believes that Garcia was trying to intervene between Casarez and her father. Casarez then shot and killed both of them and fled, Youngblood said.

Casarez went over to Fillmore Avenue where he carjacked a vehicle that was occupied by a woman and her child. Youngblood said that Casarez told her that he wasn't a bad guy, and allowed her to take her child and get out of the car.

Casarez took off in the car. A short time later, Casarez was spotted by a KCSO deputy. He pulled into a business on Edison Highway, which was owned by a friend of his. The deputy confronted Caseras and told him to put his weapon down. Casarez then turned the gun on himself and shot himself. He died at the scene.

According to Sheriff Youngblood, he believes this crime was well-planned.
