In a video shared with 23ABC, a UPS employee can be seen throwing a package into a Bakersfield front yard, landing with an audible crash. According to the resident who received the package, the incident took place on November 15th in the neighborhood of Flower and Beale streets.
He said that he had not yet contacted UPS about the incident.
23ABC reached out for comment from UPS. A spokesperson responded by saying “Thank you for bringing the matter to our attention. UPS workers receive regular training on the methods and procedures to safely transport and deliver packages. We will look into this investigation and take appropriate action.”
23ABC does not know if UPS has responded to the customer or if the item in the package was damaged.
UPDATE: After this story was posted, a second resident sent another video of another UPS employee tossing a package from the sidewalk onto the porch of a house. This incident took place at residence near Poso Avenue and Beckes Street.
When asked about this second incident, a UPS spokesman said "mishandling packages is not tolerated. UPS employee training includes the “hand to surface” method. We will investigate the situation."
