23ABC's Emma Lockhart in Bakersfield has to battle high winds and poor air quality as she covers the effects of a storm that rolled through Kern County.

The National Weather Service issued an air quality alert Wednesday morning due to smoke from surrounding fires and blowing dust from windy conditions.

The severe weather also resulted in several school closings and the cancellation of outdoor events across the region.
