Kern County's American Red Cross is looking for volunteers to help install free smoke alarms Saturday morning.
The event is part of the Home Fire Campaign, a national effort to reduce home fire deaths by installing free smoke alarms throughout the country and educating families on emergency preparedness. This is also due to an increase in Kern County house fires.
Volunteers will meet at Fire Station 1 on 21st and H Streets at 8:30 a.m. The event goes until 4 p.m.
Shifts available are all-day from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. or a from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
