Taking a selfie inside the voting booth will remain illegal in California until January 1, 2017.
The state legislature passed law AB1494, which will allow voters take and share ballot photos. The law will go into effect January 1.
The ACLU tried to change that and speed up the process in an effort to let voters take a selfie on November 8.
A U.S. District Court judge agreed to hear the case Wednesday but the court eventually decided to deny the challenge.
