TEHACHAPI, Calif. — It's a project that's literally been years in the making. But for residents in Tehachapi the Walmart officially opened at 7:30 a.m. with a ribbon cutting.

After back and forth between residents in the community, environmental groups, the city council and Walmart, the project got the greenlight in 2014.

The new Walmart is located in the area of Tucker Road and West Tehachapi Boulevard.

The Walmart Supercenter will feature free grocery pickup and will employ more than 200 full time and part-time associates.
