The Department of Water Resources upgraded its algal bloom advisory from "Caution" to "Warning". This comes after tests were conducted on the lake water this week.
"Warning" signs have been posted all around the lake. Even though the advisory is in a "warning" stage, boating is still allowed throughout Pyramid Lake. However, users are urged to avoid direct contact with blue-green algae.
Blue-green algae can pose health risks to both children and pets. The algae can cause eye irritation, allergic skin rash, vomiting, mouth ulcers, diarrhea, and cold- and flu- like symptoms.
