Tonight, students from Kern County competed for a spot in the Scripps National Spelling Bee.

The spelling bee took place in the Bakersfield City School District Auditorium.

The winner of the Kern County Spelling Bee, Briandria Starks, is now headed to the National Spelling Bee in Washington D.C. in May.

Here's the list of those who placed in the top three.

1st: Briandria Starks (Valley Oaks Charter School) - Will compete in Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington D.C.

2nd: Gabriel Nobleza (Pioneer Elementary)

3rd: Sydney Cho (Norris Middle School)
